Surgery Went Well: Jason Is Recovering Strongly After His Kidney Transplant

After years of waiting and a long day of holding our breath, we’re grateful to share that Jason’s kidney transplant surgery went very well.

This morning, the surgical team stopped by with an update, and everything looks exactly as hoped. Jason is doing extremely well, and the early signs of recovery are already visible — most noticeably, his color is dramatically better, and his sense of humor is fully intact. He’s been cracking jokes nonstop, helped along by a formidable lineup of post-surgery medications. 💊😄

We also learned more about the kidney itself. It came from a young male living donor and traveled quite a path to get here — flying from New York to Austin on a commercial flight, then making its final leg from the airport by delivery van. 😂

No dramatic helicopter landing, but a life-changing arrival all the same. 💚

Moments like this highlight how many people, systems, and acts of generosity come together to make something extraordinary possible. We are deeply grateful for the donor, for DOVE Transplant - Living Kidney Donation for Veterans, and for the exceptional surgical and care teams at Dell Seton Hospital who guided Jason safely through surgery and into recovery.

We’re also grateful for the family, friends, and broader community who have surrounded Jason with encouragement, prayers, and steady support throughout this journey.

Today is a very good day — and we’re holding onto that. 💚
